RADIO MINUTE MESSAGE
PURPOSE: The Radio Minute Message is designed to challenge the participant in using a medium that is powerful in today’s world but where time is of the essence. The participant is to design and present a radio spot on audio cassette which would reach out to the community and encourage them with the message of Christ in relation to the current year’s LTC theme.
PROCESS:
Each participant will:
1. Participate only as an individual
2. Write a brief message and record it on an audio cassette tape
3. Mail the following to the Event Director:
a. Audio Cassette tape
b. Cover sheet
c. Three copies of the message script
d. A stamped postcard with the Church Coordinator’s mailing address or email address if receipt confirmation is requested.
THE PACKAGE MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE THE PRE-CONVENTION DEADLINE
The Event Director will:
1. Send confirmation of receipt to the home Church Coordinator if a stamped postcard or email address is included
2. Organize the tapes and written messages, and provide judging forms for the three judges.
3. Tally the completed judging forms from the three judges, and make award recommendations.
4. Send judging and critique forms to the Pre-Convention Coordinator with all award recommendations.
5. Notify the Celebration Director of the two “messages” to be shared at the Saturday night ceremony and provide copies of the tapes.
RULES:
1. Time is of the essence. Your congregation has paid for a 60 – second radio spot. If your message is longer than 60 seconds, the radio station will charge your congregation extra, and you will be penalized 5 points. This time will start with the first recorded sound (voice, music, or special effect) on the tape and end with the last recorded sound. If the spoken message on the tape is shorter than 45 seconds, your congregation will not have received its money’s worth, and you will be penalized 3 points. This may include vocal music ONLY if it is clearly the participant doing the singing.
2. The 45 to 60 seconds of the main message of the tape must be in the participant’s voice. NO adult voices will be on the tape.
3. Background music, special effects, etc., are permitted.
4. Age categories:
a. grades 3 – 6
b. grades 7 – 12
SUBMISSION
1. Submit only one Radio Minute Message per audio cassette.
2. The participant’s name and congregation should be on the cassette tape. The cover sheet (see pg. 20), 3 typed scripts, and the tape are to be mailed to the Event Director.
AWARDS:
1. Each participant will be rated by the following scale:
2. Gold = 5 points, Silver = 3 points, Bronze = 1 point
3. Participants who achieve a Gold, Silver, or Bronze rating will receive an appropriate-colored engraved plate for the individual’s award plaque.
