POETRY
PURPOSE:
This event develops the ability to express spiritual feelings and thoughts in the form of rhyme and verse.
PROCESS:
Each participant will:
1. Write a poem whose content reflects the current year’s theme.
2. Ensure that the poem is typewritten, no larger than size 14 font, not in script font, and does not exceed one page. (Italics may be used. Italics keep the individual letters separate making it easier to read than a script font which links the letters together.)
3. Mail the following to the Event Director (E-mail and fax entries are not acceptable.)
a. Four copies of the poem and one cover sheet
b. A stamped postcard with the Church Coordinator’s mailing address, or email
address, if receipt confirmation is requested.
THE PACKAGE MUST BE POSTMARKED
ON OR BEFORE THE PRE-CONVENTION DEADLINE
The Event Director will:
1. Send confirmation of receipt to the Church Coordinator if a stamped postcard or email address is included.
2. Organize and send copies of the poems and judging forms to the judges for judging. Judges may use the copies submitted for critiquing. If so, these copies will also be returned to the participant.
3. Tally the completed judging forms from the three judges, and make award
recommendations.
4. Send judging and critique forms to the Pre-Convention Coordinator with all award
recommendations.
5. Also provide a copy of each poem to be displayed at the convention.
6. Notify the Celebration Director of two poems selected to be read at the Saturday night ceremony, and provide copies of the poems. Submit a third poem for an alternate.
RULES:
1. The poem may be written in any meter or rhythm. It does not have to rhyme. Poems that do rhyme can adhere to any rhyme scheme.
2. Submit one cover sheet with the four copies of poetry. The format for the cover sheet is given below.
