COMMUNION MEDITATION

PURPOSE: Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us. The message of His death, burial and resurrection is the foundation of Christianity. To remember the importance of God’s sacrifice of his son, Jesus provided us with the Lord’s Supper. This event encourages our youth to express their comprehension of the relevance of Christ’s death to all aspects of the Christian life. Though this is a written event, it should be written as if giving a talk in preparation for the Lord’s Supper.

PROCESS:

Each participant will:

1. Write a meditation essay for preparation for the Lord’s Supper, including significant reference to the LTC theme.

2. The meditation shall be typed and shall be between 150-250 words (3 – 6 grades) and 200-300 words (7-12 grades). It shall be typed in a size 12 size font.

3. Mail the following to the Event Director:

a. Four copies of the essay and one cover sheet

b. A stamped postcard with the home Church Coordinator’s mailing address, or an email address, if receipt confirmation is requested.

THE PACKAGE MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE THE PRE-CONVENTION DEADLINE

 The Event Director will:

1. Send a confirmation of receipt to the home Church Coordinator if a stamped postcard is included.

2. Organize and send copies of the essays and judging forms to the judges for judging. Judges may use the copies of the essays submitted for critiquing. If so, these copies will also be returned to the participant.

3. Tally the completed judging forms from the three judges, and make award recommendation.

4. Mail all judging sheets and comment sheets to the Pre-Convention Director.

5. Provide a copy of each essay and cover sheet for display at the convention.

6. Send judging and critique forms to the Pre-Convention Coordinator with all award recommendations.

RULES:

1. The meditation shall have at least four parts:

a. An introductory statement

b. Scripture must be included

c. An essay in which three things must be mentioned:

i. The death of Christ

ii. The bread

iii. The fruit of the vine.

d. A conclusion

2. No more than half the words in any essay may consist of quotations, including scripture.

3. The scripture may appear anywhere in the meditation.

4. Grade categories:

a. Grades 3 –6,

b. Grades 7 – 12

SUBMISSION OF ESSAYS:

Four copies and a cover sheet should be postmarked on or before the pre-convention deadline and sent to the Event Director (see pg. 20) for event director address).

AWARDS:

1. Essays will be judged by three judges and the scores averaged. Ratings of Gold, Silver, and Bronze will be as below:

2. Gold = 5 points, Silver = 3 points, Bronze = 1 point

3. An appropriately colored engraved plate for the individuals Award Plaque will be given to each participant receiving a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Rating.
